Oreo Balls
Not sure where the original recipe came from, but this version was sent to me in an email from a relative.
Ingredients:
8 oz. Softened Cream Cheese
18 oz. package of Oreo Cookies (crushed)
2 c Semi-sweet or Milk Chocolate Chips
1 Tbsp. Shortening
Mix cream cheese with electric mixer until fluffy. (I’m thinking about using the “whipped” cream cheese and see if I can skip this step.)
Crush Oreo Cookies. (We put the Oreos in a plastic bag and rolled over them with a rolling pin.) Add crushed cookies to the cream cheese and mix until well blended.
Put mixture in freezer for at least 2 hours. (This is so the cream cheese firms back up so you are able to roll them into balls.)
Roll cookie mixture into 1 inch balls and set aside. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in the microwave. Using a toothpick or tongs, dip balls into melted chocolate and place onto waxed paper.
After chocolate has slightly hardened, store in the refrigerator.
Makes 3-4 dozen, depending on the size of the ball.
(I’m betting these would also be really good rolled in candy canes, or nuts, or, really, anything, while the chocolate is still wet.)
